Thesis Modalities

Monographic Thesis

The monographic thesis is an original research work in a specific field of knowledge, carried out by a doctoral student and presented in a single, unpublished document.

The monographic thesis must include, at a minimum, the following sections: table of contents, abstract, keywords, introduction (with the corresponding research question and objective(s)), methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, and bibliographic references.

Thesis by Compilation of Publications

For theses by compilation of publications, in addition to following the regulations governing doctoral studies (Article 18, applicable to doctoral students who began their studies in the 2024–25 academic year or later), the Academic Commission of the Mathematics and Computer Science Program recommends the following guidelines:

  • A minimum of 3 high-impact publications (either 3 JCR-ranked journals, or 2 JCR-ranked journals plus 1 CORE/GGS A+ or A-ranked conference paper, not in a workshop).
  • The student must be the main author of at least two of the publications included in the compilation.
  • The same publication cannot be included in the compendium of two different dissertations.

In any case, the Academic Commission will make the final decision based on each individual application. These requirements were approved by the Academic Committee in June 2025.
