KUMAR, ROHIT (rohit1308k@gmail.com) Dr. Rohit Kumar is a researcher at Eurecat and lead Big Data engineer. He has more than 6 years of experience as a Java architect and has worked in the domain of Big Data and AI for the last 5 years. His interests include: Large Scale Distributed Computing, Graph Data Mining, Data Stream Mining, Distributed Graph Processing, Dissemination of information and information flow mining on social networking networks and characterization of time-dependent interaction networks .

HERNÁNDEZ, JERÓNIMO (jeronimo.hernandez@ub.edu) Dr. Jerónimo Hernández is a post-doctoral researcher at the IIIA-CSIC. His PhD advisors were Iñaki Inza and Jose A. Lozano. In the field of machine learning, his research works have been related to learning problems with weak supervision. His proposals aim to learn predictive models, specifically Bayesian network classifiers, from this kind of data.

DIAZ GUILERA, ALBERT (albert.diaz@ub.edu) Dr. Albert Díaz-Guilera is Full Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona. He graduated in Physics from the University of Barcelona (1983) and is a Doctor of Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1987). His research is currently focused on the general aspects of complexity, especially in complex networks. Since by training he is a statistical physicist, his research lines have been expanded to study complex systems in the most diverse fields: biology, economics, social sciences, computer science, linguistics.

ESCALERA GUERRERO, SERGIO (sergio@maia.ub.es) Dr. Sergio Escalera obtained the P.h.D. degree on Multi-class visual categorization systems at Computer Vision Center, UAB. He obtained the 2008 best Thesis award on Computer Science at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He leads the Human Pose Recovery and Behavior Analysis Group at UB, CVC, and the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics. He is an associate professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Analysis, Universitat de Barcelona. He is a partial time professor at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. He has been visiting professor at TU Delft and Aalborg Universities. He is a member of the Visual and Computational Learning consolidated research group of Catalonia.

GOMEZ MUNTANE, GERARD (gerard@maia.ub.es) Dr. Gerard Gómez is Full Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Universitat de Barcelona. Specialist in Celestial Mechanics and Astrodynamics. He is associate editor of “Heavenly Mechanics and Astrodynamics” and member of the AstroDynamics Committee of the International Astronautical Federation. He has participated in multiple research projects financed by the corresponding ministry, by the Generalitat and, most especially, by the European Space Agency (ESA), NASA-JPL and the National Center for Space Studies (CNES). It has also received support within the sixth and seventh framework program of the European Union. He has been the Principal Investigator of the AstroNet-II project, also within the seventh EU framework program, which includes 33 participants in 14 European centers, 8 academics and 6 of an industrial or research nature, in 8 different countries. It has about 100 scientific publications and has participated in more than 60 conferences.

PUERTAS PRATS, ELOI (epuertas@ub.edu) Dr. Eloi Puertas is Associate Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona. His lines of research have always been linked to artificial intelligence and automatic learning. He is part of the consolidated research group Vision and Computational Learning Group (VCL) and has participated in various R & D projects funded in competitive calls from public entities and in the REMEDI project of Recercaixa. He has made contributions in areas such as multiagent systems, intelligent tutorial systems and recognition of patterns in artificial vision. He is currently the head of studies in Computing Engineering at the University of Barcelona.

PUJOL VILA, ORIOL (oriol_pujol@ub.edu) Dr. Oriol Pujol Vila is Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. He is teaching in Agile Projects Development Processes, Image Processing and Machine Learning. His research focuses on automatic learning algorithms, particularly in supervised and classified learning, and is a computer vision specialist. He has experience of more than 18 years in knowledge transfer in the fields of data analysis and artificial vision. He is currently Vice-rector for Digital Transformation at the UB.

RIBERA TURRO, MIREIA ISABEL (santi.segui@ub.edu) Dr. Mireia Ribera get her PhD in both, Documentation and Computer Engineering and holds a Diploma in library science and documentation. She is currently Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. She participates in the national plan “Open access (open access) to science in Spain: analysis of the degree of implementation and sustainability of a new model of scientific communication.” She is also the Coordinator of the teaching innovation group Adaptabit.

SEGUI MESQUIDA, SANTI (ribera@ub.edu) Dr. Santi Seguí is Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. He is a Computer Science Engineer by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) since 2007. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona in 2011. His particular areas of interest include computer vision, applied machine learning and data science.

SOMBRA, MARTIN (sombra@ub.edu) Dr. Martín Sombra is an ICREA Research Professor at Universitat de Barcelona. He did his PhD thesis on Computer Algebra at the University of Buenos Aires. He then did postdoctoral stays at the MSRI at Berkeley, the IAS at Princeton, and the IMJ at Paris. He became Maître de Conférences at the University of Lyon 1, then spent four years as a “Ramón y Cajal” Researcher at the University of Barcelona, and became afterwards Full Professor at the University of Bordeaux 1. He finally moved back to Barcelona, joining ICREA in 2009. He works on problems at the interface of Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory and Complexity Theory. He currently collaborates with research groups in Barcelona, Paris, Caen, Bordeaux and Buenos Aires.

VIEIRO YANES, ARTURO (vieiro@ub.edu ) Dr. Arturo Vieiro is Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. He is interested in the field of dynamic systems in general and, in particular, in Hamiltonian dynamics, simplectic applications, caos, weakly dissipative perturbations, dynamics of strange attractors and numerical methods adapted to the study of dynamic systems. He has taught several courses on numerical calculation, dynamical systems, mathematical analysis, statistics and scientific programming.

BUCHACA, DAVID (davidbuchaca@gmail.com) David Buchaca works at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS). He is also He holds a MSc in Computer Engineering. He has worked in behavior modeling of maritime traffic, self-management in uncommon architectures through machine learning, and benchmarking of predictive analytics. He worked at VLEX as Natural Language data scientist from 2013 to 2014.

VITRIA MARCA, JORDI (jordi.vitria@ub.edu) Dr. Jordi Vitrià is a Full Professor the University of Barcelona (UB), which he joined in 2007, and where he teaches an introductory course on Algorithms and advanced courses on Data Science and Deep Learning. From April 2011 to January 2016 he served as UB’a Head of the Applied Mathematics and Analysis Department. He is now a member of the new Mathematics & Computer Science Department at UB. He is also the director of the Master in Foundations of Data Science and co-director of the Big Data and Data Science Postgraduate course at UB. Now, he is leading a research group working in deep learning, computer vision and machine learning. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and holds 8 international patents. He has directed 14 PhD theses in the area of machine learning and computer vision. He has been the leader of a large number of research projects at international and national level.
